Halar® is the brand name for ECTFE or Ethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene, a partially fluorinated semi-crystalline polymer developed for chemical resistance and introduced in 1970.
ECTFE is sold under various brand names, Halar® being the most popular; it is a melt-processable fluoropolymer with properties that make it a good choice for industrial coatings.
Halar® can be applied in a much thicker coating than PTFE. Typical coatings range from 5 to 60 mils (0.005” to 0.06”) in thickness, making them several times thicker than a PTFE coating. However, the thickness of a Halar® coating is limited by the thermal mass of the object being coated.
Halar® is widely used in the oil and gas, chemical processing and pharmaceutical industries.
