The Fluorocarbon sample reduced thrust due purely to friction by 1000lbf (I.E. required thrust that was measured to operate the valve under no pressure, so the seal friction was considerably reduced) compared to legacy seal design. The Fluorocarbon sample showed less wear compared to legacy design after 100 cycles of closing, pressuring to 5000psi, then opening to dump pressure. Test here was performed with water. The Fluorocarbon seal material seems to be more suited to the abrasive mud media this valve is meant to be used in, i.e. the fluorocarbon seal is harder and more rigid compared to the legacy seal.

Last Wednesday we have successfully performed the load-out operation. The operation went very smooth without any issues. Friction values ranging between 5% and 8% during the skidding operation to the quay edge. Once on the barge, with a close to perfect skid beam, the friction values eventually even dropped to 4.5% for ‘break-out’ with a new stroke, to 2.2% during the stroke.
